The Camden Library Children’s Garden in Camden, MA was designed by the Stroudwater Design Group. The design brought a little whimsy to the picturesque and historically significant library grounds. The sculptural bluestone bench was supported by stone “books”. The books represented authors and illustrators of children’s literature who were from the state of Maine.
This project happened early in Bill’s career and he went to great lengths to make sure every detail was just right. He out-sourced the sandblasting of each book in different fonts to Endicott Artist Memorial. A local craftsman was commissioned to carve children’s blocks, an apple, sand dollars and a cat out of bluestone.
The garden has been the inspiration of several children’s reading gardens across the country. It was also instrumental in sparking Bill’s desire to work on creative, innovative projects.
